Why go for solar PV?
Good Reasons to install solar PV in your home
1. Earn a cracking income from the Government's Feed in Tariffs
At present every unit of electricity you generate will earn you 43.3 pence, even if you use it yourself. You'll also save on your electricity bill as you'll need less power from the grid.
This means you'll get at least 9-12% of your investment in year 1, depending on circumstances. This is far more than any bank will offer. See our online calculator to work out an approximate cost and return for your property.
These payments are guaranteed for 25 years. And each year the benefit will rise faster than inflation, as explained in our page on the details and fine print of the Feed in Tariffs.
In our view, the return will not remain so high for long. Costs of installing PV may fall, but the tariffs offered to new systems will fall faster.
2. Reduce your carbon emissions
Like solar water heating, a solar PV system will cut your carbon emissions substantially.
Each kilowatt-hour of electricity generated in UK power stations is responsible for 0.545 kg of carbon emissions. A typical PV installation will cut emissions by 1 to 2 tonnes a year; we'll give you an exact estimate with our quotation.
In the UK our government has been slow to bring in financial support for renewables. So far we generate 1.3% of our energy from renewables, one of the lower percentages in Europe. The Government has committed the UK to raise this to 15% by 2020. This is why they have introduced these generous tariffs for energy generators.
Be part of this new movement to generate your own power, benefitting yourself and the country!
