The Soltrac team
Soltrac was founded in 2006 by Hugh Synge (right), who had spent over 30 years in the environmental movement. In the 1980s, Hugh created and co-managed the IUCN/World Wildlife Fund Joint Plants Conservation Programme, a multi-million dollar initiative to rescue endangered plants worldwide, and to provide the long-term institutional support this needed. In 2007 the magazine BBC Wildlife named him as one of the 20 "top conservationists" in the UK.
"I first installed solar panels on my home in Kingston in 1993, and was delighted with the results. Ever since, I have wanted to make this kind of heating better understood and more accessible to people, with a system that is both efficient and affordable. Soltrac, for me, is the realization of that dream, and I believe it comes at just the right time. More and more people want to do something positive about global warming, if only they can afford to. Now, they can."
In 2007 Soltrac gained Approved Installer status for solar thermal systems under the rigorous Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). In June 2010, this was extended to photovoltaic systems up to 50 kW.
In July 2008, Soltrac merged with Sarum Solar, a solar cooperative based in Salisbury. Benji Goehl, a German solar engineer who had built up Sarum Solar, initially from the Salisbury Solar Club, joined the Soltrac team. (Left), on the day of the agreement, Benji (right) shakes on the deal with Soltrac's then Marketing Manager, Nick Radford.
Also in 2008, Soltrac were awarded the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust’s “Green Shoots” Corporate Award as the most impressive newcomer to implementing environmental actions in Wiltshire.
Today Soltrac has a dedicated team of installers and engineers, dedicated to providing high quality solar solutions.
Together Soltrac (and Sarum Solar) have installed over 300 solar systems, all of which to our knowledge are still going strong. We have also repaired and brought back to life many other solar water heating systems not installed by us.
