Next 1. Setting a trend in rural Somerset

Hancock family

Michael Hancock and Sophie Graves (pictured with Sid, above) asked Soltrac to install a solar water heating system at their home in Thorncombe, Somerset. They are both active in the Transition Town movement and working to establish Thorncombe Transition Village. So cutting their own carbon emissions and setting an example to the village was a priority.

We installed two Schüco Kompakt panels, on rails over the tiles, and connected it to the twin-coil solar cylinder they had already installed.

The installation was entirely straightforward. The panels were positioned as far to the left hand side of the roof as possible, to allow maximum of space for a later PV array.

Panels: 2 Schuco Kompakt, on-roof
Absorption Area: 4.28 sq. m
Zero loss efficiency: 79.9%
Predicted output: 1629 kWh/year (SAP)
Cylinder: Gledhill twin-coil vented cylinder (already installed)
Estimated life: 35 years
